Location and Directions Schitul Ostrov, Localitatea, Calimanesti, Valcea Details Has been established in the 15th century by Neagoe Basarab. The Skete is located on an island right on the Olt river and the whole island has been elevated by 6m in 1980 due to a power plant construction on the Olt river. The Skete has a park of trees and species counting about 47 different species. It is a nuns Monastery and it is the place where Despina Brancoveanu and Teofana - the mother of Michael the Brave - have began their monastic life.
