Philotheou monastery is located on the east side of the peninsula at an altitude of 533 m on a wooded slope.
The monastery has held 12th place in the Athonite hierarchy since 1574
.
The most valuable item in the monastery is the miracle-working icon of the Virgin kissing the Child, surnamed the Glykophilousa(The Sweetly-Kissing-One).

13. Simonopetra (Simonos Petra) Monastery

Established: The monastery was founded by Saint Simon who lived on Mount Athos about the middle of the 13th century.
Celebration/Hram:  The katholikon is dedicated to the Nativity of Christ.

Extended Information/Photos: The monastery is located on the south-west shore of the Athos peninsula on a sheer cliff rising 230 meters above the sea. Its majestic building is seven-storeyed.

14. St. Panteleimon Monastery

 The Monastery is located on Mount Athos, Greece
Extended Information/Photos: The monastery of St.Panteleimon, known also as a Russian one, is built on the south-west side of the peninsula, on an inlet of Singitic Gulf beyond Xenophontos and before reaching Daphne.
The monastery of St Panteleimon  holds 19th place in the Athonite hierarchy.
To Saint Panteleimon belongs four dependencies, the skete of Xylourgou or Bogoroditsa, the Chromitsa metochion, the Nea Thebais or Gournoskete and Paleomonastiro.

Since 1968 some large buildings close to the sea have been turned into guest chambers.

16. Stavronikita Monastery

Extended Information/Photos: Stavronikita is built on a levelled headland above the sea, approximately in the centre of the north-east shore of the peninsula. It lies between the monasteries of Iveron and Pantokator. This small monastery was the last founded on Athos.
It occupies the fifteenth rank in the hierarchical order of the twenty Athonite monasteries.

The monastery of Vatopedi is the second oldest monastery on and holds 2nd place in Athonite hierarchy.
To Vatopedi belongs the Greek skete of Saint Demetrios and the Russian skete of Saint Andrew (Serrai).

20. Zographou  Monastery

Extended Information/Photos: The monastery of Zographou lies on the top of a rise, tucked into a woody fold, hidden from the sea. It is on the south-west side of the peninsula, about an hour uphill walk from its port.
